However, at the same time that he was in Britain, his daughter Julia died while giving birth. He made inroads into Britain but struggled to make any major gains. With these lands conquered, he launched an attack against Britain by crossing the English Channel. In fact, Caesar and his armies conquered tribes throughout modern France, Germany and Belgium. While there, he commanded four legions of the Roman Army and used them to conquer larger sections of territory for the Roman Republic. Soon after the establishment of the First Triumvirate, Julius Caesar was made governor over Gaul, which was a region in northern Italy and modern France. The Civic Crown was one of the highest distinctions a person in the Roman Republic could receive. In fact, his actions at this time earned him the Civic Crown for him role in the Siege of Mytilene. Caesar’s time in the army saw him fight in the eastern sections of the Roman Republic. It was also at this time, that Caesar married Cornelia, who was the daughter of a close ally to Gaius Marius. Soon after this, civil war broke out in Rome, and in order to stay safe, and away from the conflicts, Caesar joined the military and moved away from Rome. When he was just 16, Caesar’s father died, and this meant that he became the head of the family. As well, his mother came from a prominent family in Ancient Rome. Furthermore, his uncle, Gaius Marius, one of the most prominent figures in the and military leader in the Roman Republic. His father, who was also named Gaius Julius Caesar, ruled over the province of ‘Asia’, which today is western Turkey. Little information was recorded about Caesar’s early childhood, other than the fact that he was born to a Patrician (ruling) family in Ancient Rome. At the time, the city of Rome was at the heart of the Roman Republic, which extended throughout much of modern Italy, Greece, Spain and a small portion of Northern Africa. His adopted son, Gaius Octavius, assumed the name Gaius Julius Caesar Octavianus in accordance with Roman custom, later adding the title Augustus (Latin, 'majestic').Julius Caesar was born ‘Gaius Julius Caesar’ on July 13th, 100 BC in the city of Rome. The most renowned member of the Julian gens (clan) was Gaius Julius Caesar. Tiberius by Augustus) he gained the name Caesar as an indication of this adoptive heritage. As each successive emperor was adopted (i.e. The taking of the name Caesar originated as Augustus was named Gaius Julius Caesar like the original dictator upon his adoption. When an Emperor or Augustus (after the Julio-Claudian period) named an heir to the throne that heir would be known thereafter as Caesar (as it evolved to become a title rather than a name like those of Tiberius, Caligula, Claudius and Nero), until his ascession, when he too would take the title Augustus. While we today know Octavian as Augustus, each Emperor was actually awarded the title. This position (Augustus), essentially granting absolute power over the senate and people for life, for all practical purposes replaced the old periodic Republican title of Dictator, combining such powers as those of the Consuls and the Plebeian Tribunes. Octavian, the heir of Julius Caesar and first Roman Emperor is known by the name Augustus, as he was the first to be appointed with that title and was referred to as such by contemporaries. Imperator was simply a military title and had nothing to do with the modern designation of the term Emperor in English.

MYDICTIONARY BATTER HOW TO First you need to let your batter stand for at least 2 hours. He is happy with it, so are my children.Ī lot of patience is required if you want to make your own MJK. Nevermind, my husband is a big fan of Mee Jiang Kueh. Better that those MJK stall selling outside. But if we cook it the way like the chinese ones and eat it when hot, it taste as good. The batter is good for the English Pancake (Just like McDonalds). I must confess, this is not the best MJK. With the good memory, I decided to continue making it for my family to enjoy at home. After some adjustment we managed to get the correct consistency and managed to sell quite a lot of them with praises too. So my friend went to this mee jiang kueh stall in the market to observe how they cook it, where we try to mix the batter to try out. MYDICTIONARY BATTER HOW TO A chef passed us(3 of us) this recipe without tell us how to make it. I happened to volunteer for a school fund raising project. 50 years later, I started to love Mee Jiang Kueh and orange coconut fillings is my favourite. Funny how, during that time, I am not a fan of Mee Jiang Kueh. At that time, my pancake world in my 'dictionary' is only this kind of pancake. They have at least 5 small pancake pans lined in a row making pancakes on the spot. There was a stall opposite the wet market, at the junction where we walk to the movie theatre. My brothers and me will walk 1 and a 1/4 mile to this Punggol wet market. When my late 'ah ma' (mummy) will pass us some pocket money, really, pocket money from her 'zhao tee goo' illegal hawking selling home grown chilli, papaya or lime. When I was young, we have this as a treat on some weekend. MJK - my love for this grow fonder when I get older.
